One of Old Town’s last undeveloped industrial warehouses is about to get an $8 million upgrade.

The developer, Ferguson Property Group plans to transform the old Winfield Wholesale Grocery building into a multifamily apartment project.

Ferguson Property Group bought the building in 2016 with plans for a mixed-use redevelopment, with restaurants and retail on the ground floor, and offices on the second and third floors.

However, they are now moving forward in a different direction. The remodel will include adding a fourth-floor penthouse to the roof, as well as a fourth-floor addition to the south side of the existing building.

The three-story historic warehouse, located at 701 E. 2nd, was built in 1910 and has about 38,000 square feet with a 10,000 square foot basement.

The building had been on the market for four years before Ferguson bought it in 2016. NAI Martens’ Patrick Ahern handled the deal.
