CLINIC COMING CLOSE TO 29th AND GREENWICH, AND A HOSPITAL COULD FOLLOW

Article written by Carrie Rengers from The Wichita Eagle

Yet another business is coming to the 29th North and Greenwich area, and this one could have even bigger plans in the future. Children’s Mercy Kansas City is going to open an ambulatory clinic with multiple specialties just north of the northeast corner of 29th North and Greenwich in summer 2026. That eventually could be followed by a Children’s Mercy hospital immediately east of the clinic. Children’s Mercy purchased just over 16 acres at the site, only part of which is for the clinic.

Summer 2026 also is when the new Community National Bank & Trust regional headquarters is opening nearby on 29th North just east of Greenwich. That’s just north of Top Golf. “We believe Children’s Mercy will ignite even more growth up there,” said Jim Faith, the bank’s Wichita president. Children’s Mercy isn’t granting interviews yet, but it did share a release about the clinic. So far, it’s confirming only the clinic, not the hospital. In January, a Children’s Mercy representative said via e-mail that the nonprofit intends “to expand our ambulatory and specialty care presence in the Wichita region to meet the needs of the community, and will share more details about the location and services as plans are finalized in the first half of this year.” On Friday, a Children’s Mercy representative said more information, including interviews on the plans, will come in April. In the release, Children’s Mercy president and CEO Alejandro Quiroga said, “This new larger clinic location deepens our promise to support children’s health and well-being in the region, and we’re excited to grow alongside the communities we serve to help all children reach their full potential.” The new clinic will be 18,000 square feet. “We are committed to caring for kids close to home – it reduces family stress, saves time and ensures continuity of care with regular health care providers, which leads to better health outcomes and a more positive experience,” Quiroga said. The release said Children’s Mercy has served southeast Kansas with pediatric care through more than 30 specialty clinics since 2012.

That includes cardiology, nephrology and endocrinology care among other specialty areas. There will be more specialties at the new clinic, which will offer telemedicine in addition to in-person services. Children’s Mercy dedicated its first Wichita clinic in 2013 on the campus of Wesley Medical Center. It should break ground shortly on its new clinic and, if all goes well, the hospital could follow sooner rather than later — meaning within a matter of years. Scott Harper of Landmark Commercial Real Estate brokered the deal. Wink Hartman II, a development consultant with CRE Development Strategies, helped facilitate utilities and shared road costs with Children’s Mercy and the bank. He said the deal means a lot, both now and for the future. “It’s an exciting project for the North Greenwich corridor,” Hartman said. “This really makes a statement for what the area’s ready to become.” Look for more details in April.
