The addition of Commerce Bank helped accelerate the development of the Waterfront near 13th and Webb.

The Waterfront development in northeast Wichita is primed for expansion with the addition of a new office building.

Crossland Construction Co. Inc. has pulled a commercial building permit to construct the shell of a seven-story office building.

The permit is valued at $13.5 million. The address of the building will be 1617 N. Waterfront Parkway.

The developers behind the multi-tenant building aren’t yet publicly offering specifics about the project beyond the building permit.

I’m told LK Architecture is designing the building.

This will be a marquee addition to one of Wichita’s premier Class A office parks. The Waterfront is located at 13th Street North and Webb Road. The development features a mix of office, restaurant and retail.

Plans for the 166-acre Waterfront development materialized in 2002.

The development really started to take off in 2003 when Commerce Bank leaders committed to building a 125,000-square-foot headquarters building overlooking the lake and Webb Road.

Since then, other high-profile Wichita businesses, such as Delta Dental of Kansas and Foulston Siefkin have moved to the Waterfront.

Recently, much of the Waterfront expansion has centered on a new phase on the west side of Webb, called Waterfront Plaza.

I’ll detail more information about the office building project as information becomes available.
