Tom Schmeidler of SBA Construction and some investors have purchased the formerRieger Medical Supply building near the southwest corner of Central and Hillside.

“We have purchased the property for future possibility of redevelopment,” Schmeidler says.

In June, Have You Heard? reported that Rieger Medical was closing after almost nine decades in business.

Herbert Rieger, a pharmacist, and his wife, Elizabeth, opened the business in 1927 at Douglas and Sycamore where Hatman Jack’s Wichita Hat Works is now.

In the early 1960s, Rieger Medical, which grew from a pharmacy into a medical supply business, moved to the same intersection as Wesley Medical Center.

Demolition of the expansive former Rieger building won’t happen until next year. Redevelopment may take a couple of years. Look for details as they become available.
