UPDATED – As some Kendra Scott fans have already discovered, one of the designer’s boutiques is going to open in Waterfront Plaza at the northwest corner of 13th and Webb Road next year.
“It’s a huge get for Wichita,” says the Waterfront’s Stephen Clark II.
The 1,260-square-foot store will be between Lululemon Athletica and Pure Barre.
Clark says Kendra Scott “has a cultlike following similar to Lululemon.”
“We didn’t realize it would be possible for Wichita,” Clark says.
While the store is a great fit for the Waterfront, he says the chain generally is in larger markets.
“It takes about 150 stores before people start looking at Wichita,” he says.
In a statement, Scott said that it means a lot to join the Wichita community.
“This city has an energy and excitement that fits so well with our brand, and I cannot wait to open our doors here,” she said. “We are so looking forward to engaging and giving back to this local community in a big way.”
This makes the second Kendra Scott boutique for Kansas after Leawood.
The store sells jewelry – it’s particularly known for unique gemstones – beauty products and home decor.
There’s an interactive feature called a Kendra Scott Color Bar that uses a touch-screen display monitor along with iPads to allow customers to personalize jewelry.
In 2002, Scott designed her debut collection, which the company describes as a $500 project that turned into a billion-dollar brand.
There are more than 75 Kendra Scott stores, but the brand also is in major retail outlets such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s along with more than 1,000 smaller boutiques internationally.
Look for the Waterfront store to open in April.
Brad Saville and Don Piros of Landmark Commercial Real Estate did the Kendra Scott deal, and they’ve handled or are handling all the others at the Waterfront as well. And there are quite a few.
With the Kendra Scott addition along with Zoes Kitchen, which opened over the weekend, Waterfront Plaza’s occupancy is at 100 percent.
At the original Waterfront development at the northeast corner of 13th and Webb Road, Clark says there’s going to be much to watch for in 2018.
There’s 4,300 square feet next to the new Bassett Home Furnishings to be leased along with 4,200 square feet next to Charisma on Webb Road.
There’s also Accent Lighting’s new 20,000-square-foot showroom and headquarters coming to the development.
Then, there’s a couple hundred thousand square feet – that’s right, hundred – to the east of Bassett and back toward Noah’s Event Venue that will be developed.
It’s “predominantly office,” according to Clark, but he’s not sharing all the details yet.
It’s “a little early,” he says, “but there will be a lot of activity over there in 2018.”
