The Gordmans near 21st and Rock Road has been closed for a few weeks due to a fire.
As of Thursday, the store reopened, but it won’t be for long. That’s because a fire apparently is the least of the Houston chain’s problems in Wichita and beyond.
The Rock Road Gordmans and one at Central and Ridge Road are both now going out of business.
A spokeswoman, who says she can’t be quoted, says parent company Stage Stores regularly reviews its stores in order to be competitive and be positioned to give guests options.
She says Stage Stores did not make the decision lightly.
There are various media reports that Gordmans is closing about 60 stores nationally and is laying off workers at Stage Stores as well. Gordmans, which started in Nebraska, filed for bankruptcy in 2017.
The longtime Wichita stores sell clothing, furniture and household items.
The final days of business have not yet been set for either store.
