UPDATE: We are hearing that the Sake owners are planning to open a new restaurant with a different name on the east side this fall. Watch for more details.
A moment of silence, please, for one of my favorite Wichita sushi restaurants.
Sake, which opened in November 2014 in the former Taiwan space at 2140 W. 21st St. N., has closed. The phone is disconnected, a sign on the door says the restaurant is closed, and on Tuesday, the Coca Cola rep was there reclaiming his machines. I popped in, and the landlord said the restaurant had closed more than a week ago.
I left messages for owner Lin Jason but did not hear back.
Sake had delicious, fresh sushi, and the servers were friendly and kind. My two girls loved going there, not only because the waitresses were playful but also because the sushi came to the table extravagantly arranged with glowing plastic gems. My family and I even had our Christmas Eve dinner there.
The landlord assured me he’d get the building filled again but said he did not know with what.
