After nearly 11 years on the east side of Wichita, Deano’s Grill and Tapworks is set to open a second location on the west side this summer.
“A lot of the questions that we got pretty early on was when we were going to open a west location,” Ashleigh Fleming, general manager of Deano’s, said. “We procured the land for it in 2020 and are now finally getting going on the build. It’s quite far along.”
The restaurant is at 37th Street and Ridge Road. Fleming said June is the projected opening.
After breaking ground in October, the 7,500 square-foot, two-story building has built indoor seating and an outdoor patio that looks onto the lake on Pier 37, according to developer Graycon Building Group. There will be identical bars on both floors, and is supposed to be bigger in size and scale than the east location.
“We’ll have an upstairs area that’s going to have its own bar and it’s going to have a double-level patio so you can sit upstairs outside and downstairs,” Fleming said.
According to Fleming, Deano’s will be hire 50 to 60 employees for the location. Jobs include managerial positions, kitchen staff roles, backroom staff, servers, bartenders and hosts.
Fleming said that Deano’s “got in early” to the growth in the Ridge Road area.
“It’s east from that Maize Road area which is quite congested with lots of shopping and restaurants and all of it is chain restaurants,” she said. “So we pull just one mile east and everything is starting to develop that way. We’ve got apartments across the street that just got built. There are businesses booming and new housing developments.”
Deano’s is managed by A&M Management, which has an array of restaurants that include Oak and Pie on Greenwich Road and The Stearman Bar and Grill in Benton. The management is also looking to open a new restaurant in Derby in 2025.
“We’re ready to take on west Wichita,” she said.
