Smoothie King plans new northeast Wichita location

It looks as though Smoothie King has selected a site for its fifth Wichita-area location.

An application filed in September with the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department indicates that Smoothie King is planning to build within the Greenwich Place shopping center at K-96 and Greenwich Road in northeast Wichita.

Representatives at Greenwich Place confirmed the Smoothie King is under construction now between Under Armour and Greenwich Court, which is at the western end of the shopping center.

Scott Harper of Landmark Commercial Real Estate brokered the transaction.

Smoothie King is a Dallas-based franchise with more than 1,300 locations worldwide. The smoothie brand remodeled and reopened its four Wichita-area locations in the last year, including the one on West Central, one in Old Town on Douglas Avenue, one at Rock Road and K-96 and one in Derby. Smoothie King also told the Wichita Eagle earlier this year that it plans to open four more stores within the next two years.

The new Greenwich Place location will be a free-standing restaurant totaling about 1,600 square feet, with a drive-through and outdoor patio, according to the planning application.

It’s unclear when the new smoothie shop will open; Smoothie King didn’t immediately respond to interview questions.

A building permit pulled for the project by Gracycon Building Group Inc. totals $900,000, public records show.

Greenwich Place is home to several restaurant concepts, including Buffalo Wings & Rings, Blaze Pizza, Freezing Moo, Panera, Schlotzsky’s and an under-construction Chipotle.
