Along with new apartments that were announced for just north of 37th and Maize Road last month (Have You Heard? Oct. 22), Paul Jackson’s new SunStone Apartment Homes at Fox Ridge Plaza across the street are progressing ahead of schedule.
“The weather just has been fantastic this fall,” Jackson says. “I guess we’ve reaped the benefits of that.”
His 228-unit complex is on Maize Road south of the southeast corner of 37th and Maize Road.
The first phase of apartments is set to open in January.
“We thought we’d be closer to the end of the first quarter,” Jackson says.
He says a couple of months make a difference.
“In our business, that’s significant. … I’ve had just the opposite happen more often.”
Jackson says, “Time is money, so there is some savings in that.”
SunStone is leasing now.
This is Jackson’s second SunStone property. His first, in Andover, is 96 percent leased.
According to city planning documents, it looks like Jackson is considering a third SunStone property at the southeast corner of Kellogg and 135th Street, but he’s not commenting on that yet.
Jackson’s apartment neighbors in Maize will be the approximately 270-unit complex thatCase & Associates Properties plans to build on about 14 acres north of the Maize City Administration building.
Case & Associates is the Tulsa-based company building the new Portofino Apartments at 127th Street East and Central.
Along with SunStone, there are other new businesses opening in the Maize area as well.
Subway is under construction at the Stonebridge development at the southeast corner of 37th Street North and Maize Road, and a DQ Grill & Chill is now open at the northeast corner of 37th and Maize Road.
“That thing went up fast,” Jackson says.
Also nearby, Christian Brothers Automotive has a Nov. 23 opening planned for a new store on 29th Street just east of North Maize Road.
